Rapid Fire: Instead of thanks, what are you giving this year?

If we’re lucky in the Opinion section, we work through our beliefs completely and support them with great arguments. But sometimes, we don’t need a deeper reason to hold our convictions. Rapid Fire is for those short length takes that only take a few sentences to get out — no more justification needed.

It’s finally the holiday season, and with that comes one of the most mediocre and historically questionable fun holidays of the year: Thanksgiving! It’s a time for showing your appreciation for those around you and all the things that are so special to us. It’s great to be grateful, but you can only do so many years of “giving thanks” before it starts to feel phony. In this Rapid Fire, writers gave their opinions on the question: For a holiday on the third Thursday of November, what should we be “giving” instead of thanks?

Evelyn Pazan, Associate Opinion Editor: Money. We (the CT government) should be giving money to UConn so that we can escape this budget crisis.

Tomas Hinckley, Opinion Editor: I’m giving out appreciation and love to all DC Opinion haters, especially those that made websites about us. You make working here fun!

Noa Climor, Contributor: Man. Maybe instead of thanks we (UConn) should be giving us a nice, solid, and dependable Wi-Fi network that doesn’t disconnect every five minutes.
