
The University of Connecticut is a known across the country for its sports programs, having countless numbers of national championships in multiple sports and were even ranked in the top 10 “Best College Athletics in America” in 2023 by Niche, with the Huskies taking the No. 8 spot.
That credits to UConn men’s basketball, baseball, track and field and other various sports. However, the women’s sports at UConn have been having themselves a year in this fall season. As they’ve been dominating numbers across all boards and all sports, let’s take a look into their accomplishments thus far.
UConn Women’s Basketball
Starting off with the big one, UConn women’s basketball is one of the most prestigious programs in the country, possibly of even of all time, led by legendary coach Geno Auriemma. Chasing their 12th national championship trophy this season, they are off to a hot start. Beginning the season with a current undefeated 7-0 record, the Huskies have beaten teams of all levels and will start their slate of Big East games soon. UConn is led by graduate student Paige Bueckers, who averages 20 points per game, 4.9 rebounds, and 4.6 assists with a 60-field goal percentage. Next up for the Huskies, they will travel to Brooklyn to face Louisville at the Barclays Center in the Women’s Champion Classic.
UConn Women’s Soccer

The UConn women’s soccer team had themselves quite a season, finishing with a 14-5-4 overall record, winning the Big East Championship for the first time since 2004 and making an appearance in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Junior Chioma Okafor was the MVP all season for the Huskies. Okafor led the Big East Conference and the Huskies on the season with 13 goals and 30 points.
UConn Women’s Field Hockey
The UConn field hockey team was also at the top of the conference, ending the season with a 17-4 overall record, winning the Big East Championship and making an appearance in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Freshman Sophie Perschk and Juul Sauer led the Huskies offense all season long. Perschk finished with 13 goals, eight assists and 34 points, while Juul finished with 13 goals, six assists and 32 points. The Huskies capped off their year by hosting a NCAA Tournament game in Storrs, but unfortunately fell to UMass 1-0, which ended their season.
UConn Women’s Ice Hockey

After winning the Hockey East Championship last season, the UConn women’s hockey team has a high standard that they are carrying over to this year. The Huskies have started their season with a 10-8-0 overall record and 8-3-0 in conference action. Freshman Claire Murdoch and sophomore Ashley Allard are currently leading the team on offense, with each of them logging six goals. Murdoch has seven assists, which combines for 13 total points, and Allard has four assists, which tallies to 10 points. Next up for the Huskies is a road trip up north to face off against two Hockey East foes. On Friday, Dec. 6, UConn will face New Hampshire in Durham and on Saturday, Dec. 7, they will play Maine in Orono which are the final two games of their first half of the season.
UConn Women’s Volleyball
With a 14-1 record at home in the UConn Volleyball Center, the UConn volleyball team was on fire all season long. They have a current overall record of 25-7 and they finished 3rd place in the Big East Conference while also making a first-round appearance in the Big East Tournament. The Huskies are currently in Greenville, N.C., competing in the National Invitational Volleyball Championship (NIVC) and about to play in their second-round game. Throughout the season, the Huskies were led by graduate student Taylor Pannell and junior Emma Werkmeister. Werkmeister is the team leader in kills with 299 and Pannell is close behind with 286 kills. UConn is still on a roll and will face the winner of East Carolina/Winthrop on Friday, Dec. 6 at 6:00 p.m. at Minges Coliseum.
UConn Women’s Cross Country

It’s safe to say that it was a great season for UConn women’s cross country. Chloe Thomas had led the squad with her impressive list of accomplishments that includes being named an NCAA All-American, a NCAA Athlete of The Week and the Big East Athlete of The Year.
UConn Women’s Swimming and Diving
The UConn women’s swimming and diving team is off to a 4-2 start to their season, and they are breaking records as they’re doing it. Sophomore Bella Hoffman broke UConn’s school record, pool record and qualifies for the NCAA B Cut in the 200-meter backstroke with a time of 1:55.82.
Those are just a few examples of the winningest women’s sports representing the UConn Huskies. Women’s sports are growing astronomically year after year and the UConn Huskies have some of the best female athletes in the country to prove why the women’s sports will continue to stay on top.
