Lockeroom – UConn schedule outlook and prediction

The UConn football team just released its schedule for what is expected to be the biggest season in program history. Coming off a bowl victory and a newfound culture, the Huskies have loaded up this offseason in the portal and have many familiar faces as they look to build on last year.

*Editor’s Note: The second half of the schedule predictions will be posted in next week’s column.

My 2025-26 Record Prediction: 10-2

Home vs. Central Connecticut (8/30)

The first game of what is being hyped up as the biggest season in UConn history will start at home in East Hartford versus an easy matchup in CCSU. The team competes in the FCS and has barely lost to URI and UMass. This should be an easy cleanup for the Huskies, with the change for backups to get in the game at the end. Victor Rosa will get some touches in the second half and gain some early confidence as he looks to bounce back from a disappointing 2024.

Score Prediction: 42-6 UConn

Away vs. Syracuse (9/6)

The first big task of the season comes early when the Huskies travel to Syracuse. Last year, the Orange got the best of Connecticut as they won by two touchdowns. However, the Orange will again be a strong team with a new quarterback for the team the Huskies defense could take advantage of his inexperience. The Huskies will learn from their mistakes last year and get a big win on the road to start the season 2-0, as they will lean on stars such as Skylar Bell and Cam Edwards to carry them to a win.

Score Prediction: 28-24 UConn

Away vs. Delaware (9/13)

The Blue Hens are in their first year as a FBS program and should go through their stretch of readjustments. After a big win versus Syracuse, the Huskies will ride the momentum and use their ground game to secure another win on the road before heading home for Ball State. The whole backfield should get touches in this one and all be a factor on their way to a win. The defense was stout and overall played a great game as they were the catalysts in the win.

Score Prediction: 28 – 14 UConn

Home vs. Ball State (9/20)

This should be the big weekend for Husky fans, as students have settled into school and the heat has calmed down from the summer. Expect a giant attendance at the Rent for this one with the Huskies capitalizing on the energy blowing out a Ball State team that did not have a great 2024. This will be an all-around victory for the Huskies as the defense will get some turnover, while the offense does their part putting in scores early. Raymelo Murphy will have his breakout game as a Husky and will solidify himself as a top target with Bell and Hansen.

Score Prediction 42 – 17 UConn

Away vs.  Buffalo (9/27)

The Huskies will enter Buffalo hot and rested after a blowout. Last year, UConn blew out Buffalo in what was a shocker to many. Buffalo is a good football team that will return many players from last season. This should be a good matchup and a trap game for the Huskies as they will be the favorites. The game will rely heavily on the quarterbacks and with turnover being a theme for both teams in this game, yards will be big to get into scoring position. The Huskies were strong enough to outlast Buffalo last season, but there was a scare. The defensive back room stepped up, as the strength of the defense broke up many passes late as they secured the win.

Score Prediction: 24 – 21 UConn

Home vs.  FIU (10/4)

After playing against Buffalo the week prior, there will be questions if the Huskies are legit, and they will prove it as the demolished FIU. Like the Ball State game, look for the Huskies to get off to a hot start and never look back. Whoever is in at quarterback whether it is Evers or Fagnano, should have a big passing game exploiting the FIU secondary and earning a lot of praise around the state. The Huskies will rest their starters in the fourth as they look ahead to Boston College. Following the game, the Huskies will receive a top 25 ranking marking a massive accomplishment for the program.

Score Prediction: 28 – 3 UConn
