It’s hard to believe that five weeks of the spring semester are down and we’re more than halfway through the already short month of February, but here we are, Huskies! Life is moving faster than ever at the University of Connecticut and in three short weeks, spring break will be here (I can’t comprehend it either). But just because things are moving fast doesn’t mean there isn’t time to dance. This weekend features another roster of shows at some of the most prominent venues in the Connecticut music scene, featuring bands that are Storrs favorites and out-of-state groups making the trek to the Nutmeg state. For those looking for a break from the rat race, here are the top spots to catch a show this weekend in Storrs and across Connecticut.

Friday 2/21: Crunch House – West Haven
Is there anything better than getting crunchy on a Friday night? Crunch House is back at it again with another jam-packed show on Friday, Feb. 21. The four-band lineup is primarily made up of bands outside of Connecticut, making this a great opportunity for showgoers to check out bands they haven’t seen before. The bill features Hey I’m Outside, a trio from Massachusetts known for using alternate guitar tunings, as well as Juicer and Declaw, who are based in Brooklyn and Boston, respectively. Rounding out the bill is Wurley, a four-piece group from New Haven. Doors open at 7 p.m., music starts at 8 p.m. and admission is $10. Showgoers must be 18 or older to attend. Friday 2/21: The Dog P0und – Storrs
A three-band lineup is a rare thing to see these days in the Connecticut music scene, but that’s exactly what’s going down at The Dog P0und, the top spot to mosh in Storrs, on Friday, Feb. 21. The bill is highlighted by Ruby Leftstep, one of the most popular acts in the UConn and Connecticut scenes thanks to their bright and melodic alternative rock sound.
Death Valley Sun Troopers will also be making their return to Storrs, bringing their punk energy with them. Joining them is Blood’s a Rover, an indie rock band making their Storrs debut. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., music starts at 7:30 p.m. and admission is $7. No parking is available on site. For the address, message @thedogp0und on Instagram.

Saturday 2/22: The Dog P0und “Love After Dark: Drag Show Afterparty” – Storrs
Looking for something to do after the Rainbow Center’s annual drag show comes to an end? Then head on over to The Dog P0und for the “Love After Dark: Drag Show Afterparty” on Saturday, Feb. 24. This impromptu show will feature a DJ set from DJ SD-129, providing hypnotizing grooves and beats for showgoers. Music starts at 9 p.m., ends at 2 a.m. and admission is $5. No parking is available on site. For the address, message @thedogp0und on Instagram.
Monday 2/24: Cafe Nine – New Haven
Yes, you read that right: we have a Monday show this week! The music never stops at Cafe Nine in New Haven, as evidenced by this dynamite lineup that’s taking the stage on Feb. 24. The four-band bill features groups bringing punk and garage rock to the iconic venue. Among the bands is Psycho Brat, an emo punk group who’s been making waves in the Connecticut scene. Joining them is Venus Kiss, DJ Hysterica and Paint Fumes. Doors open at 7 p.m., music starts at 8 p.m. and admission is $10. Showgoers must be 18 or older to attend.
