What would you do if you had a dark secret that you couldn’t share with anybody, even your closest family members? The second series of “Am I Being Unreasonable?”—a comedy-thriller series created and written by British actress Daisy May Cooper—made its debut on Hulu on Wednesday, March 12, and answers just that.

The series, which first premiered on Hulu back in mid-September 2022, was a hit amongst audiences and critics alike, winning three Royal Television Society Programme Awards and a BAFTA.
Cooper portrays Nic, a wife stuck in a depressing marriage to husband Dan—played by Dustin-Demri Burns—and a devoted mother to her disabled son, Ollie—played by Lenny Rush.
In the first season, we learn through Nic’s numerous flashbacks that she was responsible for the accidental death of her brother-in-law, Alex—played by David Fynn, who she had a romantic relationship with since the day of her and Dan’s wedding.
Despite the severe trauma Nic faces, she strikes up a sudden friendship with another local mom, Jen—played by Selin Hizli. Drunk at a late-night party, Nic confesses to Jen the years-long secret that has haunted her. Unbeknownst to Nic, Jen has recorded their entire conversation.
The events of the first season all culminate in the season’s finale, where Nic and her family attend Alex’s funeral and Jen’s son somehow manages to accidently play the tape recording to a crowd of burial attendees.
As depressing as the series may seem, watching season 2, you can’t help but laugh at nearly every line of dialogue—especially the hilarious comments from Nic. Cooper delivers a masterful and witty performance as a deeply cynical and self-centered lonely mom with a penchant for covering her ass. Burns and Rush’s performances as Nic’s dysfunctional husband and son, respectively, greatly add to the show’s comedic brilliance.
While it’s hard to like Nic, as she’s deeply egotistical and obsessed with her image, it’s hard to dislike her, too. As the show’s antihero, she’s deeply flawed and struggling to accept the truth. However, the devoted love she shows for her young son and her desperate search for peace in her life highlight a softer side to the character.

Likewise, Jen, a manipulative and intense stalker who enjoys interfering in people’s private lives, has a seriously off-putting demeanor. Nevertheless, she is intensely protective of Nic and her family. As the mother of a young son herself, Jen’s able to relate Nic on a more personal level, which helps to strengthens their on-screen bond.
That’s not to say that the second series is chock full of giggles and light-hearted moments, as it also features plenty of drama, too. It’s what makes the show both unique and clever. And while I want to avoid major spoilers, the season 2 finale ends with another bombshell piece of information.
Overall, “Am I Being Unreasonable?” is a well-worthy watch for audiences everywhere to enjoy.
