Despite a rocky start to their 2025 season, the UConn baseball team has recently caught fire. Winning their last four contests, including a series sweep over Georgetown, Hook C looks to keep the momentum going this Tuesday on the road against BC.
You wouldn’t be wrong if you’re getting déjà vu thinking that this contest just happened. The Huskies hosted the Eagles on March 25th in Storrs. In that contest, the Huskies lost 18-6, a game where UConn held the upper hand for the first three innings. The starting pitching from Connecticut held strong in that contest, getting up 4-0 early. However, it quickly became a bullpen game for the program, as nine different arms took the bump that day. It is imperative for the Huskies that history does not repeat itself and that whoever takes the hill generates success.
In order to generate success on the mound, the program will need to do a better job of containing Josiah Ragsdale, who went off the last time these sides met. The centerfielder went 3-6 from the dish with a pair of RBIs and a longball to centerfield. However, this has been far from a fluke performance, as the junior has been Boston College’s best hitter all season. Ragsdale is slashing .328/.412/.504 from the plate on a pair of home runs and 20 RBI’s.
Another player that UConn will want to watch film on is Patrick Roche, who had a nearly identical day as his teammate. Roche has been similarly giving pitchers fits lately, slashing .322/.433/.438. How Connecticut contains these athletes will likely determine the outcome of Tuesday’s contest, as this was the deciding factor the last time these two programs met.

If the Huskies wish to pull off a big win over the Eagles, it is imperative that Tyler Minick has a big day from the dish. The sophomore has had it his way this season, slashing .339/.420/.661. Minick has also demonstrated an ability to do damage this season, leaving the yard on 10 occasions. Not to mention he leads the program with 35 RBIs.
Offensively, the Huskies are as talented as any program in the country. However, at times, their pitching has been unideal, squandering the excellent days at the plate, and has led to some tough losses. A significant reason why wins have been tough to come by is that the pitching has struggled to get hitters out, with pitchers getting themselves into deep counts. However, during Connecticut’s current four-game win streak, the offense has been excellent, and the pitching has been just as good, owning a 3.00 ERA in that span. If the Huskies can keep the Eagles to under five runs when it is all said and done, there is a good chance that the program extends to a five-game win streak.
Sitting at 17-17 overall and 5-4 in conference, Tuesday is a big game for the Huskies. A win against a program like Boston College will be a huge momentum booster for the program, especially considering that some crucial Big East clashes are just on the horizon.
