The 2025 MLB season is in full force and three weeks down a bunch of the top-performing teams are starting to stand out in the rankings. Newer faces and older veterans are emerging on the charts, and the competitiveness is already in full swing. Let’s take a look at the league’s top five teams per MLB, and a little bit about their recent performances out on the diamond.
1. San Diego Padres

The San Diego Padres have been on a hot streak, especially while playing at home in Petco Park. Although they did lose at home this week, the pitching staff in San Diego has compiled the lowest home ERA in the league and a lineup that ranks eighth in OPS at home. Fernando Tatis Jr., has raked at home, posting an OPS over 1.100 at Petco Park. San Diego currently stands at a 15-4 overall record which is currently the best record in baseball. In the first three weeks, San Diego has established a huge home environment, and their continuous winning has kept fans coming back for more in this first slate of the season.
2. Los Angeles Dodgers
Tommy Edman has been a bright light on this current Los Angeles Dodgers team. Through Thursday’s games, Edman is tied for fourth in the major league with six home runs. Last week, Edman led the Dodgers with an OPS over .900. On Tuesday, Edman was reminded of how with a four-hit performance against Colorado and he has yet to go without a hit in consecutive games this season. As for Shohei Ohtani, he has also been playing solid defense both at second base and center field, which is always fun to see Ohtani doing his thing. Los Angeles currently sits in 3rd place in a stacked NL West division with a 14-6 overall record.
3. New York Mets

Pete Alonso has been carrying the New York Mets lineup behind Juan Soto and Francisco Lindor. The first baseman is currently slashing .356/.466/.729 with five home runs, 20 RBIs and 11 walks to 10 strikeouts. Alonso leads the National League with a 1.195 OPS, 242 OPS+ and is in the 100th percentile. Additionally, his average exit velocity and barrel rate lies in the 99th percentile. Alonso so far has already posted more than half of his fWAR total from last season which was 1.3 to 2.1. The ways that opposing teams have pitched to this New York lineup has been interesting with weapons all around with most opting to pitch around Soto and face Alonso. However some of those tides changed in Minnesota when Soto launched home runs on consecutive days which makes the Mets’ lineup pretty dangerous for opponents. Right now, New York currently leads the National League East with an 11-7 overall record.
4. San Francisco Giants
Behind San Diego in the NL West, the San Francisco Giants have been on a roll. Outfield Jung Hoo Lee has made his mark on the team in the first three weeks, with his biggest moment being a two-run homer against the New York Yankees this past weekend. The 26-year-old leads the league in doubles with ten, while slugging .647. Hoo Lee has been maximizing all his opportunities in the batter’s box. The outfielder already has more than double the numbers of extra-base hits this year in less than half of the at-bats that he had all of last season. As of Thursday, San Francsico is currently in 2nd place in the NL West with a 13-5 record.
5. Philadelphia Phillies
The Philadelphia Phillies have started the season strong and have excellent hitters that fill their lineup. Bryce Harper is one of the sport’s most iconic players and his at-bats have remained on fire to start off the season. Kyle Schwarber has also provided Philadelphia with some offense, but their lineup as a whole has been inconsistent. Philadelphia has also had one of the best starting rotations in the league with Cristopher Sanchez, Jesus Luzardo, Zach Wheeler and Aaron Nola all looking poised. Through some of the ups and downs in the first three weeks, Philadelphia is currently placed 2nd in the NL East behind New York with a 10-8 overall record.
