The UConn softball team will face the Georgetown Hoyas in an important Big East series late in the season. The games will take place in Storrs at Burrill Family Field, beginning a homestand that will last until the end of the regular season.
The Huskies (14-4, 28-14) sit just behind St. John’s in the Big East conference standings and are riding a six-game winning streak after sweeping DePaul last week. The Hoyas, meanwhile, have lost two in a row as they look to climb out of the Big East cellar – they currently have just one conference win.
Connecticut has many offensive weapons to bring to bear against Georgetown, including Cat Petteys, who was recently named the National Freshman of the Week. Petteys is hitting a scorching .385 with 32 runs batted in and nine home runs, the most dingers by a freshman in UConn history. One of those homers provided the go-ahead runs in an extra-innings win over DePaul that secured the sweep.
Junior Grace Jenkins has slugged the most home runs for UConn so far this season with 15. Her .424 batting average is also best on the team. Kaitlyn Breslin, a sophomore, is not far behind in both categories – she boasts a .412 batting average and 14 home runs.

In the circle, Payton Kinney has been the Huskies’ biggest contributor, making 17 starts in 24 appearances to the tune of a 8-3 record and a 1.89 earned run average. Hope Jenkins, twin sister to G. Jenkins, has made the most appearances with 26. She is 10-2 on the season with a 3.95 ERA.
On the Georgetown side, sophomore Emily Strittmatter leads the team in batting average, home runs and RBIs. Dayanara Campos, a junior, also provides some pop – she has six home runs and 21 RBIs.
The Hoyas’ pitching staff has been anchored by Kayla Dunn, a senior who has made 18 starts in 23 appearances, recording a 4.99 ERA along the way. Senior Avery Wissmar has made the next-most starts with eight in 21 appearances, while graduate student Sage Hager has appeared mostly in relief, rounding out the three main pitching contributors.
During the series, UConn will celebrate 50 years of having a softball program, starting with a “Flashback Friday” in the first game. Friday’s contest will be played at 7 p.m. In Saturday’s game, scheduled for 1 p.m., UConn will hold an Alumni Day. The final game of the series, which will be played on Sunday at 1 p.m, is a “Sunday Funday” and Junior Husky Club Day.
Friday’s game will appear on Fox Sports 1, while the Saturday and Sunday matchups will be streamed on FloSports.
