Huskies Bar and Restaurant has opened a new sandwich shop at 33 Wilbur Cross Way in Downtown Storrs.

Dog House Subs offers a variety of hot and cold sandwiches, salads and will expand to offer daily soups, Noah Feinglass, one of the managers, said. The most popular sandwiches right now are chicken parm and pesto grilled chicken, he said.
The shop is open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. While they are closed Sunday and Monday now, Feinglass said the goal next year is to be open seven days a week.
“Business has been great, he said. “We’ve actually sold out twice, so we had to close early.”
Ashley McCabe, a fourth-semester UConn student, said she often eats downtown with her friends and went to try the new shop last Thursday.
“We needed something like this, like a sandwich place, definitely,” she said.
While Downtown Storrs is a staple for Mansfield residents, businesses primarily serve students at the University of Connecticut and brace for slower business in the summer months. With this in mind, Feinglass said they are not too worried about opening as the semester winds to an end.
“I think we will do fairly well in the summer compared to some other businesses,” he said. “The majority of our customers, there’s a lot of students, but we get lots of employees from other businesses around.”
While Dog House Subs opened to the public on April 7, Feinglass said the shop development has been in the works for a couple months. The location was empty space before Huskies leased it, so it took them time to add new floors and walls.

There is no indoor seating available, but Feinglass said they are working with the Mansfield Planning and Zoning Commission to get furniture outside for outdoor seating.
Huskies Restaurant and Bar signed a lease in 2023 and opened the full-service restaurant and bar in Downtown Storrs in late 2024. They also owned Huskies Tavern on 134 North Eagleville Road, which was closed to accommodate redevelopment of a mixed use housing complex.
Feinglass worked at Huskies as a bouncer and server for three years before he was approached to help run the restaurant’s new shop.
