What not to miss at Spring Weekend 2026

Although the recently dreary weather may set a gloomier tone, don’t let it deceive you, because Spring Weekend 2026 is finally here! The annual celebration often includes some of the best highlights the University of Connecticut has to offer — OOzeball in particular — so it’s time to do a quick rundown of what may pique your interest this year.

Food and Fun

I’d argue that almost every college student can get behind the idea of hanging out and eating food, and Spring Weekend has you covered. Head out to the Student Union Mall around 2 p.m. and you can snag yourself a soft serve cone, but make sure you get there quickly, because it’s bound to run out fast. Come back later in the evening around 8 p.m. and you can get some food courtesy of Crispy Melty — known for their grilled cheese sandwiches, might I add.

If you happen to miss today’s soft serve, you can always come back to the same spot tomorrow to grab a snow cone from Kona Ice. Around the same time, Student Activities will be hosting a cookie decorating event in a tent nearby.

Finally, SUBOG will be sponsoring a food truck festival, happening on Fairfield Way and the Student Union Mall. It starts around 5 p.m., but lines have a habit of building fast, so it might be best to get there a few minutes early.

Huskies First

There will also be a few opportunities for UConn students to show their stuff, starting with the iZone Maker Fair, beginning at 2 p.m. today on Fairfield Way. Students will be able to showcase their projects, inventions, art, business and more. This also typically involves a few vendors, so bring some cash!

On top of that, Extreme Measures will take the stage tonight as the opener for the vocal ensemble M-Pact. Extreme Measures is one of UConn’s highly talented a capella groups, and they’ll be going on at 6:30 p.m. on the Student Union Mall.

Extreme Measures isn’t the only UConn music group getting their flowers this weekend. The UConn Rock Ensemble will be performing at Sounds of Storrs on the Student Union Terrace beginning at 5 p.m.

Better With Friends

If you plan to hit up Spring Weekend with a group of friends, there are a few events you might want to put on your list. First up, every day of Spring Weekend will include an open game room in the Student Room from 12 p.m. to 10 p.m. It can be easy for the constant stream of excitement to drain you, so feel free to drop by the Doug Bernstein Game Room if you’re in need of something a little more relaxed.

SUBOG is also sponsoring a lineup of Marvel movies this weekend, with “The Avengers” today followed by “Avengers: Infinity War” and “Avengers: Endgame” on Friday and Saturday, respectively. All of these will begin at 8 p.m. in the Student Union Theater and will include free popcorn and candy for attendees.

Key Highlights

Finally, the first big-ticket item arrives in the form of SUBOG’s annual comedy show. This year, the Jorgensen Center for the Performing Arts will see comedians Michael Blaustein and Trevor Wallace on Friday, April 24. The duo is best known for hosting the Stiff Socks podcast together, during which they discuss the results of strange challenges they’ve set for one another.

For those interested in seeing Blaustein and Wallace, UConn students can get in for free by claiming their ticket on the SUBOG ticketing site. Doors open at Jorgensen beginning at 8 p.m., and the show starts at 9 p.m.

And of course, Spring Weekend’s annual OOzeball tournament begins Saturday at 9 a.m. at the North Campus Fields. Registration closed last week, so for anyone who hopped in before the deadline, make sure you begin preparing!

This year’s theme is “High School OOze-ical” and participants are expected to get “all in this together” by finding ways to dress in the theme of “High School Musical.” If you can, I recommend opting more for shorts and tank tops if you can. The mud might be sensory hell, but it’s easier to clean off of skin than clothes. And if you happen to wear shoes, know that they’ll never be clean again (and will probably smell).

Spring Weekend 2026 looks to be a fun one, so make sure you check out the full list of events on UConn’s Student Activities page
