For Husky fans, the UConn football squad will look a little different this year. After an offseason full of changes, fans will soon get to see them in action.
Before the Huskies 2025 campaign ended, Head Coach Jim Mora left to join the Colorado State Rams. With this shift, Mora brought an abundance of players with him to his new coaching gig, creating an entirely new Husky program this season.
Although, the pressure remains the same after UConn is coming off back-to-back nine-win seasons. The coach taking Mora’s place is University of Toledo’s winningest coach, Jason Candle. Like Mora, Candle brought several players from Toledo, along with some new additions to the coaching staff. He adds Nunzio Campanile as an offensive coordinator from Syracuse and Ryan Manalac as a defensive coordinator from Pitt.
The Huskies will need all these additions at the top of their game with the tough slate they have this season.
UConn is the only Group of Six program to host three power four teams at home this season.
Saturday, Sept. 12 UConn vs Maryland @ 3:30
This matchup against the Terps marks the Huskies’ second home game of the season. It also should be considered the squad’s first test. It is a revenge game for them after Maryland blew them out in their 2024 season opener. The Huskies may have a new look, but now they have a chance to answer back on home soil.
Saturday, Oct. 3 UConn vs Syracuse @ 12:00
This is another must-watch game with the last two meetings between the programs coming down to the wire. The last two seasons, Syracuse took home the victory but on their field. In 2025, the game went into overtime in a late controversial touchdown. Now, the Huskies get a chance for another hard-fought battle at Rentschler Field.
Saturday, Nov. 7 UConn vs UNC @ 12:00
It is another must see showdown with an ACC opponent taking on Bill Belichick and the Carolina Tar Heels. Belichick will make his return to “New England,” and we need to make sure to deliver a punch with a full student section cheering us on. Two years ago, we defeated them in the Fenway Bowl and now we have the chance to do it again.
UConn’s schedule is packed with heavyweight teams this season, and we are lucky enough to host them right here in our backyard. It is your job as incoming students to cheer on our Huskies and give them the best advantage they can.
Bring your friends, wear your white and blue, and do not forget to shake your keys on those big third downs.
