The University of Connecticut women’s volleyball team went winless this weekend after taking on the Marquette Golden Eagles and DePaul Blue Demons.
The Huskies fell 0-3 to Marquette on Friday for their 14th consecutive loss to the Golden Eagles. The Huskies kept it close in the first set, 22-25, but were dominated 17-25 and 15-25 in the final two sets.
Freshman Sydney Borowy led the team with nine kills, followed by sophomore Maja Daca with eight and freshman Helena Einarsdottir with six.
Daca also led the team in aces and digs with four aces and seven digs, respectively.
The assists for UConn were dominated by sophomore Audrey Jensen, who had 23. The next most assists came from junior Hazuna Akishige and freshman Isabella Sohl, who each had three apiece.
Freshman Courtney Grayson was a defensive anchor for UConn, making six blocks, which was more than Marquette’s total of three.
Junior Carson Tyler and freshmen Caydence Doolan and Tani Juric were offensive powerhouses for Marquette, getting 13, 10 and nine kills, respectively. Freshman Luanna Markus was also great offensively, dishing 36 of Marquette’s 39 assists.
Freshman Emi Juric wasn’t about to get outplayed by her twin, though, as she led the team with 12 digs over the course of the three sets.
The Huskies’ next matchup was on Saturday, when they lost 3-1 to the Blue Demons marking their sixth loss in a row versus DePaul.
UConn barely lost the first set, 24-26, but came back to win the second set, 40-38. After a long second set, UConn narrowly fell to DePaul, 24-26, in the third set and 20-25 in the fourth set.
Even though the Huskies lost 3-1, they did beat the Blue Demons in kills, blocks and assists while tying them in digs with 66 apiece.
Borowy led the Huskies in kills again with 16, while sophomore Jordyn Hughes had 13 and Daca had 11.
Maca once again led the team in aces, but with three this time.
Jensen also led UConn in assists for the fifth time this season, getting 49 out of the Huskies’ 59 assists versus the Blue Devils.
Defensively, Einarsdottir was great, getting 16 digs while Jensen and Akishige both got 13 apiece.
For DePaul, sophomores Kendall Timme, Martina Diana and Isabela Tavares Salomon were stone-cold killers, getting 19, 16 and 13 kills, respectively.
Also, Blue Demon senior Leonor Polezzi and junior Amanda Saeger accounted for 48 of DePaul’s 57 assists in their 3-1 win.
Defensively, DePaul was sound as junior Abby Cahill, Timme and Saeger all accounted for double-digit digs.
After entering the weekend with a 7-6 record, the Huskies’ two losses drop them to a below .500 record at 7-8.
UConn’s next games are both out-of-town conference matchups. The Huskies will first play Georgetown in Washington, D.C. on Oct. 2 at 7 p.m., before traveling to Villanova for a 7 p.m. match on Oct. 3.
UConn has a 13-5 record against Georgetown and is currently on a four-game winning streak versus the Hoyas. The Huskies won 3-1 in their last matchup on Nov. 15, 2025.
The Huskies also have a winning record against Villanova, besting them all-time 11-10, although UConn is currently on a three-game losing streak. Villanova narrowly won 3-2 in their last matchup on Nov. 14, 2025.
