The University of Connecticut’s Student Union Board of Governors and Undergraduate Student Government are teaming up for a question-and-answer session in the Student Union Theatre today at 6 p.m.

The goal of this event is to make the two prominent campus organizations and their leadership more accessible to the rest of the student body, wrote SUBOG President Julia Pfeifer in an email to The Daily Campus on Monday.

“Both SUBOG and USG serve the student body in different ways, and we wanted to create an opportunity for students to get to know our organizations better, understand what we do, and ask questions directly to our leadership teams,” Pfeifer wrote.

Students can attend the event and ask questions of Pfeifer and USG President Venice Montanaro.

“We encourage students to attend, as this is their opportunity to have direct conversations with the leaders of two of UConn’s largest student organizations,” Pfeifer wrote. “Whether they have questions about programming, campus life, involvement opportunities, student advocacy or want to learn more about what we do, we want to hear from them. The event is designed as an open, honest conversation centered on student voices.”

Montanaro offered similar sentiments in an email to The Daily Campus on Monday.

“Our organizations work incredibly hard to provide engaging events for all students,” she wrote. “Understanding the differences and similarities between our organizations can allow you to understand how you can get involved and participate! Asking questions about our organizations or upcoming events is a great opportunity to connect with us.”

Students who can’t attend the event will still have an opportunity to submit questions via a form linked to SUBOG’s Instagram and the event Instagram post. Questions will be answered on Instagram the day of the event.

Pfeifer said she’s open to answering any of the questions students might have, “whether they’re about how our organizations operate, how we make decisions, opportunities for involvement or what we’re working on this year.”

Montanaro said she hopes this event will help students recognize that the leaders and members of these organizations are students just like them.

“We are working hard to support the student body. Your fee money goes to us to support you, and you deserve to ask questions and get the answers you deserve,” she wrote.

Free food will be available at the event on a first come, first serve basis, according to the event Instagram post. The event is open to all students free of cost and no registration required.
