UConn field hockey, currently ranked No. 4 in the nation, aims to continue its impressive six-game winning streak as it prepares to face Temple University on Friday.
In the past, UConn has had the upper hand against Temple. Since November 1987, the Huskies have won 17 times compared to Temple’s five wins, with one draw. At home in Storrs, UConn has seven wins, one draw and one loss against the Temple Owls and is now starting the game on a three-game winning streak. The previous season’s match on Oct. 10, 2025, showed Temple’s ability to stay competitive, with the Huskies securing a narrow 1-0 victory, the smallest margin of victory in the series’ history.
Even with a strong record, Temple arrives in Storrs at 5-6, having won only one of its two Big East games after facing a tough non-conference schedule that included matches against James Madison, Maryland, Lafayette, Delaware and No. 10 Princeton.
The Owls’ offensive attack depends on Rozlyn Maciejewski and Lucia Magro. Although Temple trailed behind at the start, getting outscored 6-1 in the first quarter, the team got more intense in the later periods and scored 17 points to its opponents’ 14 in the middle quarters. Defensively, Alex Lepore is the main figure, playing over 640 minutes and posting a 2.25 goals-against average and a .676 save percentage, despite the backline facing 133 shots and giving up 67 penalty corners. As a result, keeping a disciplined defense inside the circle remains a key priority for Temple.

A key storyline to watch will be the midfield battle, since both teams rely heavily on transition to create chances. UConn is known for fluent passing and rapid counterattacks, while Temple compensates with a physical style of play which helps it interrupt the opposition’s attacks and force turnovers. The team that dominates the center of the pitch can set the game’s tempo and direction.
UConn starts Friday’s game with a strong 9-1 record overall (3-0 in conference games) after a strong run. The attackers, who average 2.80 goals per game, are led by standout player Lucy Zich, having the most points for the team (19) and the most shots (33), along with Olivia McKenna, Ellie Goldstein and Milou Heuker. Defensively, goalkeeper Natalie McKenna has performed well, playing over 716 minutes and registering a tight 0.92 goals-against average and a .711 save percentage, consistently reducing the opponents’ chances of scoring.
For UConn, it will be important to take advantage of Temple’s tendency to start slowly. By applying early pressure in the first third of the game and winning penalty corners, the Huskies may be able to gain the initiative, disrupt the Owls’ defense and maintain their advantage on home ground.
The Huskies and the Owls will meet at 3 p.m. The match will be available on UConn+.
