The UConn women’s soccer team has struggled mightily to score goals all season.

Netting just 14 goals in 13 contests, the Huskies are tied for 256th in the nation in goals scored and 237th in scoring offense, according to the NCAA website. They are coming off a 1-0 shutout loss to DePaul on Saturday, the seventh time they have been held scoreless this season.

Fortunately for the Huskies, they open this week’s Midwest road trip with a team that has had an even rougher time coming across goals. Having scored just 11 goals this season, Creighton University is sitting tied for 293rd in goals scored and 299th in scoring offense.

With a defensive battle likely to ensue, the Huskies (3-3-7, 1-1-3 Big East) will head to Omaha, Nebraska to face the Bluejays (5-6-3, 1-3-2 Big East) on Wednesday.

Part of UConn’s scoring struggles has been a lack of consistent production to replace Chioma Okafor. The now-professional forward led the Huskies with eight goals last year.

Early in the 2026 season, freshman midfielder Maeve Staunton looked like the player who would take the lead after she scored three goals in two games in the latter half of nonconference play. Instead, Staunton missed the next four games after scoring that third goal against West Virginia on Sept. 13. While she still holds the team lead with three goals, the former freshman of the week has taken just four shots in three games since her return, with only one being on goal.

Senior midfielder and unanimous Preseason All-Big East selection Anaya Johnson made her season debut in late September. The team captain has slowly started to heat up, scoring her first goal of the season against Xavier on Oct. 10.

Junior forward Se-Hanna Mars also earned Preseason All-Big East honors and scored her second goal of the season against Xavier, her second goal of the season. Mars finished second on the 2025 squad with three goals scored and easily leads the 2026 roster with 39 shots. That’s 18 more than junior forward Chloe Shimkin, who sits in second with 21.

For the Bluejays, senior midfielder Olivia Duray leads the team with four goals. Sophomore Sarah Hyde is the only other player to have scored multiple goals. The forward has not found the back of the net since Sept. 4 against Northern Colorado.

With both teams struggling to score, the contest could come down to a battle of the goalies.

Junior goalkeeper Morgan Paley has started all but one of the Bluejays’ 14 contests but was pulled late in their last game after allowing four goals in an eventual 5-0 loss to Xavier. In contrast, UConn sophomore Ava Yamas has not allowed more than two goals in seven games since rejoining the Huskies’ lineup against Harvard on Sept. 20. The second-year starter has posted three shutouts.

Kick-off at Morrison Stadium is scheduled for 6 p.m. The contest will stream live on ESPN+.
