Dan Hurley agrees to new deal with UConn through 2032 season

The University of Connecticut announced on Friday that it had signed UConn Men’s basketball Head Coach Dan Hurley to a two-year contract extension through the 2031-2032 season.

The new six-year deal keeps Hurley in Storrs for two more years past the end of the six-year contract Hurley signed in 2024. The new contract follows the existing terms of the 2024 deal, according to a release.

“It’s an incredible honor to coach the game I love at a place like the University of Connecticut and to be part of a community that means so much to me and my family,” Hurley said in a release. “We understand our responsibility to the people of Connecticut and to the incredible supporters of UConn Basketball and will continue to bring a relentless, obsessive approach to winning and championship-level success. UConn is the Basketball Capital of the World, Bleed Blue!”

Now entering his ninth season with the Huskies, Hurley has gone 199-75 at UConn and will go for his 200th win with the program on Monday night against Gardner-Webb at PeoplesBank Arena to open the 2026-27 regular season. Hurley led the Huskies to victories in the 2023 and 2024 national championships, also making an appearance in 2026.

Since 2022-23, in which the Huskies won their first championship under Hurley, UConn has posted a dominant 126-28 record.

In his 16 years as a head coach, Hurley has led his programs to a 20-6 record in the NCAA Tournament. Hurley’s .769 winning percentage during March Madness is the second highest in tournament history, behind only the legendary John Wooden (47-10, .825)

During his tenure, the program has sent 12 players to the NBA, including seven first rounders and four lottery selections.

“Dan has proven to be the very best coach in men’s college basketball, and we’re thrilled to keep him home at UConn for the next six years,” UConn Athletic Director David Benedict said in a release. “His teams embody everything that UConn is about; resilience, competitive excellence and the pursuit of championships. In this chaotic era of college sports, it has never been more important to maintain continuity as we strive to compete at the highest level in everything we do.”

Hurley is currently the second-highest paid head coach among coaches at public schools, behind only University of Kansas Head Coach Bill Self, according to a USA Today report. The report does not include all head coaches at private schools, as those schools are not required to make their coaches’ salaries public.

Hurley’s existing six-year, $50 million contract was set to expire following the 2029-2030 season.

The deal was first reported by Jon Rothstein of 247Sports.
