Attending college inevitably means staying up late for one reason or another. Whether you’re cramming for an exam, partying all night or whatever else, you will always find yourself in search of food in the middle of the night.

It’s important to keep a stash of snacks in stored away in your dorm room for those nights. Here is a list of a few of the necessities:

Ramen noodles

An unspoken staple for all college students is Ramen Noodles. It’s incredibly cheap to buy and takes only a couple of minutes to make. What’s also great about Ramen is that there are countless amounts of recipes online where you can use the noodles to make different variations of meals. So when you’re tired of eating the same thing all the time, rather than mixing in the broth, drain the water out and put some butter and Parmesan cheese instead. Or use the noodles as a base for a salad.

Microwavable mac ‘n’ cheese

The holy grail of snack foods. If there’s anything we learned from Luke Gatti, it’s that mac and cheese is something to not mess around with. Make sure to stock up your supply of microwavable mac and cheese for when you’re not feeling the walk to the Union or when you simply don’t have the extra dollars to spare.

Throw a cup of mac and cheese into your microwave whenever you’re getting a late night craving and within three and a half minutes you’ll be able to get your fix.

Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream

No matter the time of day or the season, Ben and Jerry’s ice cream is always the right snack pick, specifically half-baked though. No one can deny chocolate and vanilla ice cream mixed with gobs of chocolate chip cookie dough and fudge brownies (and if you can, are you even human?)

Popcorn

When all else fails, there is popcorn. You can always smell the delicious aroma of it’s warm, buttery goodness floating down your hallway on any given weekend night. Reaffirming what we all already know, popcorn is an essential for all college students. Just don’t set your microwave too high because no one in your dorm building wants to have to listen to the fire alarm go off at 3 a.m. because your idiot self can’t read directions.

Candy

If there’s one thing we are all collectively guilty of, it’s having a sweet tooth. Candy is cheap and convenient. Even when your candy supply is low, you can hit up the vending machines in your dorm building to restock. One of my favorite things to do is to mix Buncha Crunch (or any bite sized chocolate pieces) with popcorn for the perfect combination of a sweet and salty snack.

Store-bought baked goods

The unhealthier the snack, the better it is (it’s terrible, but it’s true). It’s important to have an array of Little Debbie, Entenmann’s and or Hostess snacks in your possession for those nights where you have an undeniable craving for baked goods.
