In their third fall weekend matchup of the season, the UConn softball team put together back-to-back performances to take down in-state rival Yale.
Chelsea Eckert started for the Huskies in the first of two games against Yale. In her five innings, she gave up one run and four walks, no-hitting the Bulldogs. The UConn offense was on fire, scoring their first run in the bottom of the second on an Emma Stanley single. Yale tied it in the top of the third, and UConn responded with two unanswered runs on doubles by Ally Hernandez and Chloe Kearns. UConn scored again in the fourth with a Carli Cutler sacrifice, making the score 4-1 UConn. Jill Stockley came in in the sixth inning to finish out the game for the Huskies and secured the no-hitter as this score would go final.
The UConn offense again was dominant in game two, starting off scoring with a bases-loaded walk to bring home the first run in the fourth. In the bottom of the inning, Ryne Nakama tripled with runners on first and second, bringing in two runs. This was followed by a single from Taylor Townsend, bringing Nakama home. The offense wasn’t done yet, however. In the bottom of the sixth, another run came home with a bases-loaded single from Hernandez, giving UConn a 5-0 lead that they would carry through to the end. The Husky offense out-hit Yale 12-2 in the second game.
UConn Softball’s final fall games are Sunday, Oct. 9 with a double-header at home against Fairleigh Dickinson.
