UConn kicked off Game One Friday night at the Houston Field House against the Engineers. The star of the second period was goaltender Annie Belanger, who blocked 21 shots in the first period alone as the Husky defense was outmatched by the strength of the RPI offense. Belanger also blocked two penalty shots in the first period. Despite her strong performance, RPI scored their first goal six minutes into the first period.

The Husky offense picked up at the beginning of the second period, outshooting RPI 8-0 in the first five minutes. Again, UConn was unable to convert and RPI scored with two minutes left in the second. UConn came out strong in the third period, but failed to score and gave up a third and final goal to RPI as the Huskies lost 3-0 in the first game.

Game Two took place Saturday afternoon. The Huskies outshot RPI 16-2 in the first period of the game. Leah Lum came through for UConn, scoring two goals in the first period. Both teams went scoreless in the second. Five minutes into the third, RPI scored their first goal of the game.

With nine minutes left, Theresa Knutson capitalized, scoring UConn’s third goal of the game. Finally, in the last minute, RPI pulled their goalie in favor of another offensive player. This plan failed, however, when Madison Badeau hit one into the empty net. UConn took the second game of the series 4-1.

The Huskies, now 3-2, are back at Freitas this Friday for a weekend series against Penn State.
