Students evacuated the Oaks on the Square building three around 8:10 p.m. Thursday night following reports of a smoky odor.
“The fire alarm went off and it smelled like matches,” sixth-semester communications major Mia Yona said.
There were five fire trucks that responded to the scene on the Blaze-side entrance to the Oaks.
“We smelled smoke and came out to wait,” second year pharmacy student Anthony Renzoni said. “It kind of smelled like burnt marshmallows.”
The entire building was evacuated but patrons remained in Love Art Sushi and Storrs Wine and Spirits. After evacuating, students returned back into the building up the side staircase attached to the bus station.
Students were then told to return outside where they remained until the all clear was given around 9:03.
“The odor went away and residents are now reoccupying,” Mansfield Deputy Fire Chief Ryan Hawthorne said.
