Computers read better than humans

Do you think technology is outsmarting humans? According to recent research, computers are better at reading than humans! Artificial intelligence programs have been built by Alibaba Group Holding Company and Microsoft. These technology programs took a reading comprehension test designed by Stanford University, the same test that was also taken by humans. Records indicated that the technology programs outperformed humans.

Alibaba’s software was the first software that beat a human’s score. From these results, the chief scientist of national language processing at Al’s research group, Luo Si, claimed that workers are losing their jobs due to the fast pace nature of such technology.

With the new technology programs, greater functionalities develop. For example, customer service can be quick and efficient. In addition, medical inquiries from patients can be taken care of immediately, which reduces the need for humans to intervene.

The software has currently been used from Singles Day, the world’s biggest shopping day. On Singles Day, computers were used to answer customer service questions, which allowed the software to become introduced in advance.

From these results, Pranav Rajpurkar, one of the researchers at Stanford who designed the reading comprehension test, named the software “a great start to 2018.”

Around the world, such artificial intelligence technology, such as the one used to take the reading comprehension test, replaces warehouse workers with robots. Such technology can even operate self-driving cars. These technologies can also help farmers, allowing them to grow better crops.

From these results, it can be observed that many companies are leaning towards more efficient production, because they plan to implement these technologies. One city has already stepped forward with plans about implementing artificial intelligence – Beijing. Beijing plans to implement the technology by 2020. Additionally, government officials will seek to build a domestic artificial intelligence agency, which will be worth almost $150 billion, in the next few years.

We already witness people learning to embrace the beauty of technology. However, the implementation of computers and virtual technology is a double-edge sword. The pro of automating everything is that it saves time. We live in a society where people are often busy and need to make their lives easier. Just by automation, the majority of the population will be less stressed and can live a life of comfort. In addition, production is efficient, saving time and in the long run, money.

Yet, there are times when we are scared about everything being too technological. When we rely too much on machinery, there are fears as to whether these technologies will replace human labor. Due to this, there might be less of a need for people to do the labor, which can cut down on hiring workers for production. In addition, though these technologies are trained to be intelligent, they can be hacked. When we live in a world fueled and dependent on robots, computers, etc., we run the risk of losing important information and data.

Furthermore, such technologies make people more reliant on their output. As a result, people will focus largely on the “artificial intelligence” benefit. Though technology is outsmarting humans, relying on technology to solve world problems may not be the best idea. Because of this, humans lose touch on what is more important – working together and solving problems as a means of learning. We do not want to lose touch with this base mode of communication.

The ultimate question comes down to whether we can trust technology to store all the information. Can we imagine a world with less communication, where people are less confident about their own abilities, and more confident about technology? Thinking about the impact of technology is important, and can protect us in the future.
