Students who have a meal plan at the University of Connecticut will be able to eat at Northwest Dining Hall over spring break.
Students must sign up online for which meals they anticipate they will be eating in the dining hall next week. The meal plan is limited to one breakfast, lunch and dinner per day starting Saturday, March 10, through Saturday, March 17. There is no deadline to submit this form.
Flex passes and points will not be active during break, according to the Dining Services website.
“So much of it is tied to there (being) simply some students who can’t get home or don’t have a ‘vacation’ planned,” Director of Residential Dining Mike White said.
About 250 students sign up for the spring break meal plan every year on average, according to White.
Northwest will be the dining hall that will be open because of a conference taking place next Friday. White said the conference will be having lunch at Northwest, North and the Student Union.
“The conference is so large that they are eating in three locations,” White said. “Using Northwest during break allows us to open North just for this conference on Friday.”
White said he considers factors such as these conferences when deciding which dining hall should be used for meals during break.
“Prior to every break, I evaluate our operational needs based on conferences, students still on campus and then the size of the dining hall,” White said. “The one thing we are trying to always do is be aware of our expenses, the size of the building versus what we really need.”
Dining Services has an essentially identical program for Thanksgiving break in November.
If students have any allergies or dietary restrictions, they should call Dining Services’ main office so Dining Services can work with the student to make sure his or her needs are met.
