The University of Connecticut is one of eight remaining colleges and universities vying to win a free Cardi B concert in a “Tinder Swipe Off.”
The school that has the most right swipes will win the performance, according to a tweet from popular dating and hookup app Tinder. The competition started with 64 schools and the final eight were announced yesterday.
Eighth-semester computer science major Flavio Lici said, though he isn’t a Cardi B fan, he wants UConn to win so badly that he designed an auto swipe script to help the university’s chances.
“I’m a pretty avid programmer so I decided to use my powers for good and build a quick auto swipe script to help us win,” Lici said. “But I guess there might be a rules issue with my method so I’m not risking it.”
According to the swipe-off rules, the first 200 students who swipe right on a profile created by Tinder that promotes the concert can attend it.
To be eligible, participants must have an active Tinder account and must be able to provide proof of attendance to the winning school, according to the swipe-off rules. Tinder is only counting right swipes that occur on campus.

Eighth-semester management and engineering for manufacturing major Katherine Larkin said she hopes UConn wins the competition because she is a Cardi B fan and has always wanted to see her perform live.
“She has a great energy and personality, and her songs are really fun,” Larkin said. “I also admire how successful she has become, from her rough background.”
Larkin said since she is a senior, having Cardi B come to UConn would be a fun way to end her college career.
“I also feel that the spring concert isn’t as ‘lit’ as it has been in the past, but a Cardi B concert would be lit,” Larkin said. “It’s also great that the concert would be free, and seeing a pregnant Cardi B perform would be iconic.”
