The UConn men’s track and field team is back in Storrs Friday to host UMass-Lowell and Vermont in the second day of the UConn Multi-Event Challenge. After one day, UConn sophomore, Ben Grosse sits in first place with a total of 2,096 points through four of the meet’s seven events.

Head coach Greg Roy had already stated his trust in Grosse’s ability to perform, and the sophomore delivered on Thursday, placing in the top three in three out of the day’s four events.

The meet began with the 60-meter sprint where Grosse got off to a bit of a rough start, placing in sixth out of the eight runners with a final time of 7.40 seconds.

Grosse picked it up from there, placing second in the long jump and third in the shot put with totals of 6.85 meters and 11.25 meters, respectively.

Grosse was able to end the day on a strong note with another second place finish in the high. His highest leap was at 2.02 meters, earning him 822 points, enough to push him ahead of the leader and into first overall.

Roy is hopeful that the sophomore can continue the success he’s had early on, and carry it into Day 2 of the meet today as well as the rest of the season.
