There’s nothing like a good horror film to start off the semester. I mean, is there a bigger mood for the spring semester than having to relive your death every day?
While the film premieres on Feb. 13, there will be a free advanced screening of “Happy Death Day 2U” this Thursday, Jan. 31 at Mansfield Movieplex in the East Brook Mall.
A bus to the screening leaves from the front of the bookstore at 5:30 p.m. and the showing starts at 6 p.m. Free tickets can be found online on the Universal Pictures Screening website.

The “Happy Death Day” sequel follows college student Theresa “Tree” Gelbman who is forced to relive her birthday and her death every day until she breaks the loop by killing the person after her. Each day she goes through the same routine but with a different ending which brings her closer to figuring out her killer. This time, her killer is going after her friends too and when they die, they stay dead.

The screening not only gives students an opportunity to see the film for free and nearly two weeks early, but it also gives students an excuse to get off campus before classes really kick into gear. The jump scares and unfolding mystery are a relief from the stress of classes after the month-long break.
“It’s also a fun way to get out with friends because it’s a movie about friends going through something together,” Universal Pictures campus intern, Kayla Sinkevitch, said.
