Though it’s still early in the year, 2019 is sure to bring some big hits to big screen. Here’s a preview of some of the new movies that will hit theaters.
“Isn’t It Romantic”
Coming out in February, “Isn’t It Romantic” stars the hilarious Rebel Wilson as Natalie, a woman who hits her head and wakes up in a romantic comedy. The movie makes fun of genre tropes, including the grand romantic gesture, the handsome male lead, singing and dancing to annoying pop songs and even the genre’s typical PG-13 rating that doesn’t allow for swearing or nudity. Liam Hemsworth plays Natalie’s love interest Blake, and Adam Devine plays Josh, one of Natalie’s coworkers.
“Aladdin”
In May, the new live-action version of Disney’s “Aladdin” will hit theaters. The movie’s plot is expected to be similar to the original, and the movie will also include songs from the original. The “Aladdin” remake comes on the heels of Disney’s successful live-action remakes of “Beauty and the Beast” in 2017 and “Cinderella” in 2015. “Aladdin” will also feature Will Smith as the genie, a fun role that many are excited to see him take on.
“Avengers: Endgame”
Of course, Marvel is adding more movies to their cinematic universe. Picking up where “Infinity War” movie left off, “Avengers: Endgame” will follow the superheroes as they resurrect their forces to face off against Thanos. Though this is one of the first Marvel movies to come out since Stan Lee’s passing, it is expected that the movie will still feature a cameo from Lee that was shot before his death.
“Once Upon a Time in Hollywood”
Full of star power, this Quentin Tarantino-directed drama is sure to dazzle audiences. The storyline follows Rick Dalton (Leonardo DiCaprio) and his stunt double Cliff (Brad Pitt) as they try to revive their acting careers. The film is set around the time of the 1969 Charles Manson murders, and Margot Robbie plays Sharon Tate who was murdered by Manson followers. In the movie, the fictional character Rick is neighbors with the historical Tate and their story portrays a dark and interesting period of Hollywood history.
“Where’d You Go, Bernadette”
Based on Maria Semple’s acclaimed novel of the same name, “Where’d You Go, Bernadette” follows a teenage girl as she searches for her missing mother. The inquisitive Bee (played by Emma Nelson) discovers her mother Bernadette’s past in the process, bringing them closer together. Cate Blanchett plays Bernadette, and other notable stars include Kristen Wiig as Audrey, the parent of one of Bee’s classmates, and Billy Crudup as Bernadette’s husband Elgie.
“Rocketman”
Just as 2018’s “Bohemian Rhapsody” told the story of Freddie Mercury and the other members of Queen, 2019’s “Rocketman” follows the beginning of Elton John’s career. Taron Egerton portrays John throughout John’s years at the Royal Academy of Music and his musical partnership with Bernie Taupin. Of course, the film also goes into some of John’s private struggles. It is expected to be released at the end of May.
