The UConn softball and women’s lacrosse team put on a clinic this weekend against ECU. The softball team swept the Pirates in all three games, and the women’s lacrosse team dominated on its way to a 17-7 win. Here are some of those players that helped their teams this weekend.
Maura Glatczak, Softball
Catcher Maura Glatczak played a pivotal role in two out of the Huskies’ three wins this weekend. Glatczak started the weekend off the right way on Friday when she hit her first home run of the season to give the Huskies a lead that they would not relinquish. UConn would go on to win 10-3. The sophomore could not be stopped on Sunday afternoon on the Huskies’ way to an 8-4 victory, as she went 2-for-3 with two RBIs to cap off the terrific weekend. Glatczak now has a .243 batting average and seven RBIs.
Lia LaPrise, Women’s Lacrosse
The UConn women’s lacrosse season ended on a high note Saturday afternoon. Despite finishing with a 3-14 record, the Huskies showed some promise for the future. Freshman Lia LaPrise led the Huskies to a commanding 17-7 victory over ECU with four goals and an assist. With the score tied at one early in the game, LaPrise scored an unassisted goal to give the Huskies a 2-1 lead that they would never give up. LaPrise finished her season with 20 goals and 17 assists, which gave her the second-most points (37) on the team.
Kyler Fedko, Baseball
Although the Huskies lost the series to Sam Houston State, Kyler Fedko had a stellar weekend at the dish. On Friday night, with Huskies up 2-1 in the sixth inning, Fedko delivered a three-run homer to give UConn a commanding 5-1 lead. But the Huskies would go on to give up seven runs in the bottom half of the frame and lost 8-5. By the end of the weekend, Fedko had five hits, a home run, a triple and three RBIs.
Carli Cutler, Softball
Glatczak wasn’t the only softball player with a huge weekend. Junior Carli Cutler played a pivotal role in the 25 runs that the UConn offense scored against ECU. During the matchup Saturday afternoon, Cutler drilled a double to score Olivia Sappington to give the Huskies a 3-0 lead. UConn went on to win that game 7-2. The third baseman finished the weekend with four hits, three RBIs, a double and two runs scored. So far this season, Cutler has a .280 batting average, four doubles, a triple, three homers and 20 RBIs.
