The UConn men’s soccer team faced another upset in their first American Athletic Conference fixture against USF away on Friday, losing 2-1. The Bulls scored the first goal of the match in the 17th minute by midfielder Emilio Ycaza. USF maintained the 1-0 lead until forward Dayonn Harris scored the equalizer in the 61st minute, his first of the season for the Huskies. Unfortunately, the Huskies were unable to maintain the 1-1 match due to USF defender Javain Brown scoring the second and final goal for the Bulls in the 80th minute.
On Tuesday, the Huskies played Dartmouth away, which resulted in a 2-2 draw. Jordan Hall scored the first goal of the match in the 32nd minute, marking his ninth goal in nine games. The Huskies scored once more in the 63rd minute from midfielder Ahdan Tait, marking his first goal of the season. It didn’t take long for the Big Greens to tie the game up as defender Jordan Bailon scored in the 63rd minute, and less than a minute later, forward Tiger Graham scored the equalizer. The match went into overtime, however, and neither team was capable of scoring the golden goal. The Huskies will play Memphis on Friday at Dillon Stadium for their second conference game.
SMU continued its flawless run of 9-0-0, defeating Tulsa 5-1 in their opening conference fixture as well as defeating Central Arkansas 3-0. On Saturday, midfielder Gabriel Costa scored the first goal for the Mustangs in the 14th minute. Garrett McLaughlin followed up scoring the second goal of the match, marking his eighth in nine games. In the second half of the match, Costa scored once more in the 45th minute to secure his brace. The Mustangs scored once more in the 56th minute by midfielder Knut Ahlander until conceding to Tulsa in the 60th minute by defender Alejandro Chavez. SMU scored once more for the win in the 64th minute by defender Eddie Minjoma. On Tuesday, McLaughlin scored in the 26th minute. followed by forward Wyatt Priest scoring in the 42nd minute. The Mustangs scored once more in the 60th minute by Ahlander. SMU will play its second conference game against UCF on Sunday.
Temple lost its first conference match against UCF on Friday 2-0. UCF midfielder Yoni Sorokin scored in the third minute followed by forward Jonas Schmalbach scoring in the 76th minute securing the victory. On Tuesday the Owls played against Old Dominion, which remained a 0-0 match until midfielder Leandros Lillis scored in the last minute of the match. Temple will be facing Cincinnati at home on Saturday.
Cincinnati lost its first conference match at home against Memphis 3-1 on Friday. Memphis forward Sam Ashton scored in the 16th minute followed by midfielder Christoforos Kourtis scoring a brace in the 54th and 58th minute. The Bearcats finally made a goal when midfielder Shevon Stewart scored in the 60th minute. On Tuesday the Bearcats defeated Purdue Fort Wayne 5-0. The Mastodons gave Cincinnati their first goal due to an own goal in the 5th minute. Forward Creggton Charlton followed up with the second goal of the match, and midfielder Marcello Jones scored the last goal of the first half. In the second half, forward Darryn Commissiong scored the last two goals of the match to secure a brace and a win in the 76th and 86th minute.
