Brian Hathaway, an unaffiliated candidate petitioning for Town Council, said he wants people to feel comfortable with being unaffiliated.
“I want to hopefully open communications to people who are unaffiliated, as well as all people, to give them a place to land where they don’t feel like they have to take a side,” Hathaway said. “I want to give people the choice, I think there are a lot of people out there interested in a choice that doesn’t label them.”
Hathaway said he is especially interested in taking part in the search for a permanent Town Manager, working on merchant issues in Downtown Storrs and address the parking complaints.
With the University of Connecticut so close, Hathaway said that he wants the town to embrace UConn’s culture.
“UConn students are an integral part of the community,” he said. “They’re here eighty percent of the year and contribute to our businesses and society in this small area so they should have a voice and an understanding and be able to participate in these decisions that the town makes.”
