
The results for the University of Connecticut’s elections for student trustee are in, with Sean Dunn elected as the undergraduate student trustee and Joy Hamer elected as the graduate student trustee.
Turnout in the undergraduate student trustee election was 17.5%, with Dunn winning 1463 votes or 36.16%. Dunn campaigned in four key areas: University development, sustainability, mental health and student services, and community engagement.
“I am deeply humbled and honored to serve as the next Student Trustee,” said Dunn on Instagram. “In my campaign, I outlined what I planned on bringing to the Board, and I promise to follow through. You will hear from me regularly on the progress of reaching these goals together.”
Turnout was substantially lower in the election for graduate student trustee, at 7%, with Hamer winning 200 votes, or 36.36%. “Joy won several advocacy awards, making her well-equipped to advocate for the long-range good of the university as a whole,” she said in her campaign statement on Instagram. “Joy’s vision for the future is to have JOY ON EVERY CAMPUS! She aims to create a shared community among ALL graduate campuses with a focus on student influence over allocation of infrastructural, operational, and physical resources.”
The Student Trustee Election Committee said in a written statement, “We send our congratulations to Sean and Joy, as well as our good wishes for successful terms. We also want to thank those of you who voted in the election; we appreciate your participation.”
Turnout was 16% for fee referenda in Storrs, with voters rejecting all fee increases on the ballot by between 72.81% and 76.74%, with Storrs USG, Nutmeg Publishing, UCTV and the Daily Campus being denied fee increases.
Karima Hamada was elected as Stamford’s SGA president, with 405 votes, or 65.53% of the vote, with 31.9% turnout. Nathanelle Eveillard, who ran unopposed, was elected as Vice President with 579 votes, or 93.68% of the vote.
Kevin Jankowski was elected Stamford SGA’s Chief Financial Officer with 289 votes, or 46.76% of the vote. Tuan Kiet Tran was elected as Chief Administrative Officer with 351 votes or 56.79% of the vote.
Ann Ibrahim was elected Hartford USG’s president with 87 votes, or 39.18% of the vote, with turnout at 17.99%. Salma Makhlouf was elected as Vice President with 117 votes, or 52.7%.
Hartford elected three senators, with Bryce Scarbrough winning 164 votes, or 32.41%, Sana Lulat winning 156 votes, or 30.83% and Mark Saint Andrew winning 112 votes, or 22.13%. Votes for write-in candidates are still being tallied.
Storrs USG results have not yet been certified.
