It’s that time of every 4 years again! Election season is back, and with it comes a certain unique sense of existential dread for young people that can’t quite be captured any other way. The first presidential debate between candidates Kamala Harris and Donald Trump was yesterday on Tuesday night. In the aftermath, the Opinion section answers: What is the best way to cope with the feelings of disappointment and impending doom, given that these are our choices for leaders?

Tomas Hinckley, Opinion Editor: There’s a good quote I like from Audre Lorde, “without community there is no liberation.” So, in this case I’m going to get all my best buddies together and hopefully liberate myself from thinking that this is actually the future of politics. At least, let’s all be doomed together.
Evelyn Pazan, Associate Opinion Editor: I’ll be sitting in my dorm, eating popcorn and watching all the debate memes materialize to distract myself from mourning the loss of what America could be. Maybe I’ll even play my sad playlist and wear all black to get the full effect.
Dan Stark, Campus Correspondent: The best way to cope with the Trump-Harris matchup, is by taking great solace in knowing that Robert F. Kennedy Jr. isn’t one of the choices anymore.
