Volleyball: Huskies hope to continue their undefeated record this weekend at home

Following their strong performance last week in New York, the University of Connecticut’s women’s volleyball team will be looking to extend their winning streak. This weekend, they will face Delaware State University, the University at Albany and Dartmouth College.

First off, the team will take on Delaware State on Friday at 7 p.m. The Hornets have had a difficult start to the season, losing five of their previous six games. The Hornets will be led by junior Gerren Tomlin, who currently leads the team with 50 kills and 12 service aces.

Delaware’s roster also features senior Martyna Kmuk and sophomore Hannah Sanders. Kmuk and Sanders currently lead the team with 13 blocks each, and they proven themselves to be an essential part of Delaware State’s defense this season.

The Hornets secured their first win last weekend against the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and will be looking to continue the momentum this weekend.

On Saturday at 4 p.m., the Huskies will go against the University of Albany. The Great Danes have started the season with mixed results and currently stand with a 3-3 record. They are currently on a two-game winning streak that they will look to continue heading into the weekend.

The Great Danes are led offensively by redshirt junior Shynelle Woroniuk, who currently leads the team in kills with 78 so far this season. Another important offensive player will be freshman Maria Olga Siapani. She leads the team in both service aces and assists, scoring eight service aces and 189 assists in the last five games. Defensively, the team features redshirt sophomore Gabriella Karman, who has accumulated 19 blocks this season. The Huskies have previously faced the Great Danes five times, with UConn emerging victorious three times.

Lastly, on Sunday at 1 p.m., UConn will face Dartmouth. Dartmouth currently stands with a 2-1 record. They will be looking to keep the positive momentum and continue their two-game winning streak. Dartmouth will be bringing junior Kauany Gutz and graduate student Karen Murphy to lead them offensively.

Gutz currently leads the team in kills with 57, and Murphy leads them in assists with 73 in their last three games. Sophomore Raeli Smith currently leads the team in the defensive front with 14 blocks so far this season. This will be the sixth time UConn will go against Dartmouth. The Huskies currently stand with a 3-2 record against the Big Green, and they will be looking to extend that winning record this week as well as continue their undefeated season.

All three games will be played at the UConn Volleyball Center. All games will also be streamed on UConn+.
