The University of Connecticut Dining Services will be making additions to the cafes and retail locations’ menus this October in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
One addition to the menu that Dining Services has officially announced is a salad special called “Pretty in Pink.” According to a UConn Dining Instagram post, the salad launched last week and will continue to stay on the menu for the entirety of October. The special is currently available in the Student Union’s One Plate, Two Plates.
According to the post, the Pretty in Pink salad involves a mixture of spinach, goat cheese poppyseed dressing and roasted pepitas, as well as some chopped fruits.
“The salad is a great balance of creamy and crunchy with spinach, chopped strawberries, raspberries, cranberries, diced avocado, crumbled goat cheese, strawberry poppyseed dressing and roasted pepitas,” reads the post’s caption.
Dining Services will also be hosting a “Pink Out Day” on Friday, Oct. 18 to further recognize breast cancer awareness this month. In honor of this celebratory day, Dining Services plans to offer pink sugar cookies at all the cafes on campus, as well as Mango at the Recreation Center, and other retail locations, according to Dining Services Assistant Director of Retail Operations Scott Hauver. Hauver also said that the sugar cookies will be part of the dining halls’ dessert menus on that day.
Any customers that show up wearing any pink or a pink ribbon on Pink Out Day will be offered sugar cookies while supplies last, according to Hauver.
“Dining Services will support breast cancer awareness with ‘Pink Out Day’ on 10/18/24,” Hauver said in an email. “This includes offering pink sugar cookies at all UConn cafes, Mango and other retail locations to those customers wearing pink or a pink ribbon that day, while supplies last. Pink sugar cookies will be offered as part of the dessert menu at all dining halls that day as well. We encourage our staff, including student employees, to wear pink or a pink ribbon that day.”
Also on Pink Out Day, Mango is expected to offer a “special smoothie,” called the “Pink Drink”, which will consist of Greek yogurt, strawberries and coconut milk, according to Hauver. For any customers that show up in a pink ribbon or simply the color pink, Mango will offer them a pink bracelet, Hauver added.
