This weekend, the UConn track and field team will compete at the John Thomas Terrier Classic Invite and the Coach Greg Roy-al Rumble. The John Thomas Terrier Classic Invite will be held in Boston at Boston University. The event will take place from Friday, Jan. 31 to Saturday, Feb. 1. The Huskies will host the Coach Greg Roy-al Rumble on Saturday, Feb 1.

The Huskies are coming off multiple impressive performances at the Penn 10 Elite Meet hosted by the University of Pennsylvania on Saturday, Jan. 25. Senior Marc Morrison dominated in the long jump event, setting a school record with a jump of 7.86 meters.

Graduate student Jenna Zydanowicz will be a key runner for UConn, also coming off a dominant performance at the Penn 10 Elite Meet. Zydanowicz finished third in the 1-mile event with a time of 4:38.30. This time was also her personal best and the second-fastest mile time in UConn women’s track and field history.

Junior Mekhi Stone and senior Kasey Savage joined the top ten all-time marks at UConn in their respective events at the Penn 10 Elite Meet. Stone finished the 400-meter race with a time of 47.60, the seventh fastest time in UConn men’s track and field. Savage competed in the long jump event with a jump of 7.50 meters, the eighth farthest jump in UConn men’s track and field.

Sophomore Anna Connors has also proven to be an essential runner for the Huskies. Connors recently set a school record in the 300-meter event, at the Battle in Beantown meet hosted by BU, with a time of 38.42.

The Boston University Terriers also have had multiple recent, impressive performances. At the UMass Lowell Invitational, junior Michael Onilogbo won the 60-meter dash with a time of 6.79, the third all-time fastest time in BU history. Freshman Guy Margalit also had a top ten performance at the meet. Margalit won the triple jump with a jump of 14.50 meters, the eighth farthest distance in BU history. On the women’s side, Alli Lofquist also had a record-breaking performance. Lofquist eclipsed a 3.70-meter bar in the pole vault event, the second highest height in BU history. These will all be key runners for the terriers.

The Huskies last competed at the John Thomas Terrier Classic Invite in the 2022 season. At the meet, then-senior Mia Nahom broke the school record in the mile. The Huskies will look to continue to have record breaking performances at the meet this season.

Next up this weekend, the Huskies will look to continue the momentum into the Coach Greg Roy-al Rumble at home as they started the indoor season with a dominant home meet.
