In their matchup against the Terriers, the Huskies got started early as in the first period Brianna Ware lined one up on the powerplay to put the visitors up 1-0. This lead carried into the second period, as there was little offensive action in the first following this goal. In the second, Claire Murdoch extended the lead as she slotted one home giving the Huskies a commanding two-goal lead. BU answered back in the second, though, as they put one through to make it a one-score game heading into the third. In the final period, it was a true defensive battle as Connecticut goaltender Tia Chan, w came up big. The Huskies held off the Terries and iced the game with a Jada Habisch empty net goal to give the team a big win on the road. Chan ended up finishing with 33 saves on the day and was a great support blanket for the Huskies defense.

It was a busy weekend for the UConn women’s hockey team, as they had a two-game split with one game being away versus the Boston University (BU) Terriers and the other being at home versus Holy Cross. The Huskies came into the match against BU 17-9-2 on the year and are coming off a loss from Northeastern this past week by a slim margin. They also lost their spot in the poll as they fell out of the top 15. Sliding into the 14th slot, however, was BU, whom they would take on Friday night in Boston.
Following the game in Boston, UConn took the two-hour bus ride back home to prepare to play against a gritty Holy Cross team on Saturday night at the Toscano Family Ice Forum. Tia Chan started the contest, as she played in back-to-back games, and was brilliant throughout, as she made 24 saves overall. The scoring started early for the Huskies, as star Habisch netted one home in the first period to give Connecticut a lone-goal lead. Habisch’s goal was the only one scored during the game, as Chan held Holy Cross scoreless throughout the entire game. This was a big win for the Huskies as they sealed a weekend sweep of their opponents, bringing their record to 19-9-2 on the year overall. The Huskies will return to action next week with a two-game series versus Providence.
