Town of Mansfield looks for submissions for juried art exhibition

The Town of Mansfield is calling for art submissions for their sixth annual Juried Art Exhibition, to be held at the Mansfield Community Center beginning in May.

The exhibition will take place from May 17 to June 27 and is open to submissions from artists aged 18 and older, according to a press release from the Town of Mansfield Art Advisory Committee. The competition is only open to individuals residing in Tolland or Windham County, including university and college students in those areas. As the University of Connecticut is located in Tolland County, UConn students can apply.

Artists applying will need to pay a non-refundable fee of $10, and online registration as opposed to in-person registration will have a convenience fee attached. Submissions close on April 28.

“Each artist may submit up to 2 original works — no previous submissions allowed,” the Mansfield Community Center said in a post on Instagram. “Entries will be judged on originality, skill, and suitability for a family-friendly setting.”

The exhibition will be giving out monetary awards for specific artworks. This includes a first-place prize of $100, a second-place prize of $75, a third-place prize of $50 and a People’s Choice Award prize of $25. The People’s Choice Award will be given out based on the result of a public vote at the Mansfield Community Center.

The exhibition will accept both two-dimensional and three-dimensional works, provided they fit certain size parameters, which can be found on the Town of Mansfield website. All two-dimensional works must be prepped for the art show and must be framed, wired and ready to hang once it is submitted.

Those who wish to apply can either visit the Mansfield Community Center or register through the organization’s online portal using Activity Number #499000 – A. Artists must also be prepared with photos of their work and information included the title, medium and size of the piece. Those submitting in-person can also bring their art with them to the community center. Artists must also fill out an Artist Consent Form along with their submission, which can be found online.

“We encourage local artists to take advantage of this exciting opportunity to showcase their work and contribute to our vibrant creative community,” a press release from the Town of Mansfield Arts Advisory Committee said. “For more information or any questions, please contact Artsadvisory@mansfieldct.org. Join us in celebrating local art!”

According to the tentative schedule listed in the minutes from the organization’s March 4 meeting, artists can expect to hear back from the committee on May 7 as to whether their piece was accepted into the exhibition. Artists would have until May 17 to drop off their work at the community center, and the awards will be announced on June 6.

The Town of Mansfield Arts Advisory Committee meets on the first Tuesday of every month at the Mansfield Community Center from 5 to 6 p.m.
