The UConn tennis squad will face Seton Hall on Wednesday for the final match of the regular season before the Big East Championship.
The Huskies, 9-6 overall and 3-2 in the conference, have enjoyed a strong season, excelling in doubles and singles play. Last weekend, UConn faced conference opponents, Georgetown and Villanova, falling to the Hoyas 3-4 and beating Villanova 4-3.

UConn’s Chloe Lomans and Ela Platenikova defeated Georgetown’s Paige Gilbert and Ashley Kennedy 6-3 in a doubles match. Lomas and Platenikova have been largely successful this season, capturing wins against Providence and Elon. Platenikova and Lomas also captured singles wins against Georgetown. Platenikova defeated Emily Novikov 1-6, 6-4, 6-3, and Lomas defeated Julia Chu 6-6, 6-2. UConn’s Cameron Didion also enjoyed a singles win.
The Huskies 4-3 victory against Villanova demonstrated their doubles dominance and singles resilience. In doubles, Lomans and Platenikova earned their second win of the weekend, notching a 6-3 victory against Villanova’s Emi Callahan and Maggie Gehrig. The Huskies’ other dynamic duo, Victoria Matos and Madison Mcleod, overcame Villanova’s Lauren Monti and Jenna Stevens 6-2. The singles matches were slightly more competitive as the Wildcats earned three victories.
Seton Hall has struggled a bit more this season, earning a 5-13 record overall and going 1-4 in the conference. Most recently, the Pirates took on Saint John’s, falling just short, 3-4. Despite the loss, Seton Hall recorded significant victories in singles matches. Kira Farrakhova, Jaden Davidson and Anastasia Sereda all notched notable wins. The doubles, however, were where Seton Hall struggled. Farrakhova and Sereda fell 6-2, while the team of Rachel Benoualid and Isabelle May fell 6-4.
Seton Hall’s only conference win was against Providence in late February. In a 7-0 win, the Pirates excelled in both singles and doubles, sweeping the match. Farrakhova, who at the time had earned the BIG EAST Player of the Week, dominated the Friars’ Flora Eidson 6-0 and 6-1.
The Huskies will be challenged in the upcoming match to maintain their doubles and singles prowess, with partners Lomans and Mcleod leading the doubles charge. The duo is 5-0 this season, earning strong marks in matches against Butler, Sacred Heart, Fairfield and Quinnipiac.
In singles, Victoria Matos, Lomans, Didion and Mcleod have all been exceptional, with Lomans and Didion capturing wins against Villanova last weekend.
The Seton Hall matchup is scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday in Storrs.
Following Wednesday’s match, the Huskies will prepare for the Big East Championship on April 16-19.
