The No. 5-seeded University of Connecticut women’s tennis team is heading to Cayce, S.C. to take on the No. 4-seeded Georgetown University on Friday to start their Big East Tournament run.

The Huskies last match was against the Seton Hall ended with a 4-3 win last Wednesday.

In doubles play, sophomore Chloe Lomans and junior Ela Platenikova notched a win along with freshman Madison Mcleod and junior Victoria Matos.

In the singles play versus the Pirates, senior Cameron Didion and Lomans both won their matches while junior Isabella Asenov won the day for UConn after winning the last two sets of her match.

That win brought the Huskies to an 11-7 overall record and 4-3 in conference play. One place UConn hasn’t struggled is at home, where they have a 6-1 record, but UConn has struggled away from Storrs, where they have a 4-6 record. In neutral sites, they have a 1-0 record this season.

In doubles play over the season, Asenov and Didion have the most wins with seven, but they also have the most losses with six. Over the season, only one pairing had zero losses when playing together. Lomans and Mcleod have an overall record of 5-0 but Lomans and Platenikova plus Matos and Mcleod only have one loss when paired together.

In singles play over the course of the season, Didion and Lomans have the best record with 12 wins and four losses with Asenov not far behind with a record of 11-5. Platenikova, Mcleod and Matos all have records below .500 with Matos and Platenikova having the most wins out of the trio with seven.

Freshman Ilana Rosenthal started one singles match over the entire season versus the University of Massachusetts, which she won.

Georgetown is coming into the matchup vs UConn as the favorites. Georgetown has a record of 8-8 overall and a 4-2 record in conference play.

The Hoyas beat the Huskies in their last matchup on April 2, 4-3. In their past 10 matches, UConn has a record of 3-7 against Georgetown. Georgetown is on a four-match win streak.

UConn will play Georgetown on Friday at 1 p.m.
