The UConn track and field team will host the Northeast Challenge this weekend. Action begins today in the early afternoon, with a primary focus on the hammer throw and initial field events. The meet resumes on Saturday morning with a heavy rotation of sprints, hurdles and distance events, culminating in the high-stakes relay races in the afternoon.
Both men’s and women’s teams came out victorious at the last Northeast Challenge in 2025. The men handily won over second-place Rhode Island by 29 points and the women dominated second-place Dartmouth by 81 points.

Momentum continues to build for the Huskies after a phenomenal meet at Duke University. Freshman Brooke Strauss is coming off breaking the school record in the 1500m, with a time of 4:14.36. Strauss will try to go even lower on Saturday.
Freshman Kaylee Meyer had a dominant outing last week, posting a personal best in the high jump with a 1.68m. Sophomore Piper Linn posted her personal best as well, this time in the pole vault with a height of 3.78m.
The dominance of the Huskies’ underclassmen has been a defining storyline of the outdoor season, providing a glimpse into the program’s future.
In the men’s 100m, junior Medwin Odamtten claimed third place with a time of 10.37. Saturday was filled with records; Odamtten wanted his name in history, as that was the third fastest UConn has seen in the event.
It is just under a month away from the Big East Championships, and every race and event matters. With the Huskies having all the momentum, there is no sign of anyone holding them back. This weekend will be a big test and the Huskies look to take advantage of every opportunity.
