
The UConn baseball team (21-20, 7-5) is coming off a 10-0 shutout victory against St. John’s despite dropping the series at home. The University of Rhode Island (15-23, 9-9) is on a four-game losing streak and will look to get back in the winning column against the Huskies.
UConn dropped their first game against St. John’s on Friday with a final score of 4-0, marking the first game in history that the Huskies were shutout at Elliot Ballpark.
Junior left-handed pitcher Charlie West pitched eight innings for UConn during the game and struck out 10 St. John’s players.
During Saturday’s doubleheader, the Huskies dropped game one despite leading late in the game, St. John’s brought in three runs during the top of the ninth to take a 6-5 win.
To close out the series, UConn responded with a shutout performance. Anthony Belisario and Cam Righi each brought in three runs for the Huskies, contributing significantly to the win.
Left-handed pitcher Oliver Pudvar pitched his second straight seven-inning complete game shutout with a combination of UConn hitters scoring 10 runs on 13 hits.
UConn’s matchup against the University of Rhode Island is their first and only game at Dunkin’ Park in Hartford this season. Last season, the Huskies hosted the University of Massachusetts at the stadium and took home a 12-2 win.

Looking at URI’s roster, senior Jack Hopko leads the Rams in runs scored (27) while junior Reece Moroney is the team’s leading hitter (57). Moroney has a .370 batting average and is a consistent hitter for the Rams.
On the mound, junior right-handed pitcher Joe Sabbath leads in innings pitched so far this season with 36. Right behind him is sophomore right-handed pitcher Jake Cullen with 35.1 innings pitched. Both can be expected to play in the pitching rotation against UConn.

UConn has a Big East three-game series against Georgetown starting on Friday but first will look for a win against URI before hitting the road.
The midweek matchup between both teams is set to be a good one with the Huskies looking to create a winning streak and the Rams looking to snap their losing streak.
The first pitch is set for 6 p.m. at Dunkin’ Park. If fans are unable to make it to Hartford, the game will be available to watch on UConn+.
