The University of Connecticut Red Cross Club and the Black Student Nurses Union are holding a blood drive Monday through Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The drive will be held at UConn’s Alumni Hall.
The drive will not be open on Tuesday but will reopen on Wednesday, according to an Instagram post from the organizations. This is the second blood drive hosted by the organizations this fall.

The Red Cross has an incentive for donating blood through Sept. 1-20. After donating blood, platelets or plasma, donors will receive a Hello Kitty plush mascot clip along with stickers while supplies last, according to the Red Cross website.
Some requirements for donating blood include meeting the iron level requirement and being at least 17 years old and 110 pounds, according to the Red Cross website.
The Red Cross recommends donors receive at least eight hours of sleep before the donation, eating a meal before and drinking lots of water.
Those donating must have a valid ID to check in. The Red Cross accepts multiple forms of identification including a driver’s license, passport or green card.
Before the blood draw, donors will be asked some questions such as date of birth. Then donors’ temperature, pulse, blood pressure and hemoglobin level, which is the iron protein in your red blood cells, will be checked according to the Red Cross website.
The Red Cross said the blood donation process will take about an hour.
The next blood drive at UConn will take place Sept. 28 through Oct. 2, according to the Red Cross website.
