The University of Connecticut Undergraduate Student Government senate elections are now open. Students can vote now through 12 p.m. on Sept. 17 on UConntact.
Students will vote on an amendment to USG’s constitution regarding impeachment and removal procedures for the organization’s officers, employees and officials.
The amendment seeks to clarify the difference between compensated and non-compensated officers in the organization. According to the amendment, officers, members of USG confirmed by the student senate who aren’t paid, can be removed through impeachment, which requires a two-thirds majority vote of the student senate. Other employees and officials who are paid by USG can be removed through processes outlined in the University’s Student Employment Guide. Students can vote to pass or reject this amendment.
There are two multicultural and diversity senator seats up for grabs. These senators are elected to represent underrepresented identities in the organization. There are eight candidates, and students can vote for up to three.
USG has at least one open senate seat in every residential area on campus to be voted on this week, as well as 10 seats for off-campus students. The USG Fall Election Packet lists how many seats are up for election in each area.
Students can also vote for senators to represent their school or college. All schools except the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and the School of Business have seats open.
Students are only able to vote for candidates running in their respective residential areas or school.
Elected senators will be sworn in on Oct. 7 at 6:30 p.m. in the Student Union Ballroom.
