A Mansfield man was recently charged with multiple counts of criminal attempt to commit murder, along with a slew of other charges, in connection with an incident in December during which the man fired a gun at three state troopers.
David Rawlinson, 64, of Storrs Road, Mansfield was arrested at 11:30 a.m. on Feb. 15 on two active arrest warrants while recovering in the hospital after being shot by state troopers in December, according to the Hartford Courant.
On Dec. 19, state police responded to a report of a domestic dispute between Rawlinson and a woman. The witness who reported the incident said Rawlinson had a loaded shotgun and was threatening to kill the woman because of a Facebook post she had published about him, according to the CT Patch.
The woman wrestled the gun away from Rawlinson, who then said he would shoot any police officers who responded to the scene and struck the woman, according to the affidavit.
When police reported to the scene, they saw Rawlinson fleeing the home in a vehicle. Police pursued him until he pulled into a parking lot and rammed his car into a police car, police said.
Rawlinson fired his gun at the officers who then fired back, striking Rawlinson. Rawlinson was airlifted to a hospital for treatment for his injuries.
Rawlinson has been charged with disorderly conduct, third-degree assault, second-degree threatening, assault on public safety personnel, three counts of criminal attempt to commit first-degree assault, three counts of criminal attempt to commit murder with special circumstances and two counts of criminal attempt to assault public safety personnel. He was held on a $5,150,000 bail, according to the Patch.
