UConn students experienced hot move-in temperatures in Sept. 1973 when the Storrs campus faced a five percent increase in enrollment, bringing the total number of students to just over 13,100.
That year 2,400 new freshman moved in, accompanied by 9,263 returning undergraduates and 700 transfer students.
With another 2,600 at the other UConn branches, the total enrollment at UConn in 1973 was just about 15,700.
In 1953, the Daily Campus reported that the enrollment of 11,000 students across all branches was the “largest in the history of the school.”
In the fall 2017 semester, there were 19,241 undergraduate students at the Storrs campus and another 4,604 at the regional campuses, bringing the UConn undergraduate total to 23,845, according to an official UConn posting.
