UConn Gives was a major success ((Eric Wang/The Daily Campus)
After a mere 36 hours of fundraising, UConn Gives raised $324,140 for various school organizations, athletic teams and scholarships. It would appear that the education and opportunity afforded to graduates by this university has invoked a fair semblance of lucrative gratitude from beneficiaries and supporters nationwide.
According to the UConn Foundation press release, “Donations poured in from supporters across the country and around the world, illustrating how much the University’s reputation has grown over the years.”
The six-figure haul, astonishingly enough, is more than double the sum raised from the previous year, which totaled $64,000. Clearly the university’s reputation is expanding in incredible fashion. Supporters, 4,724 to be exact, are eager to contribute to its flourishment and the advancement of young folks’ education within the state. And that’s precisely what students and residents, alike, can expect.
The Jeffrey D. Fisher Health Behavior Change Research Fellowship was the lucky recipient of the most significant sum of donations, garnering $26,055. This fellowship is granted to the graduate student working on a dissertation who boasts the most exceptional record of achievement in health behavior research.
Receiving the second highest gross was the 100% UConn Law Challenge, a competition among law firms and legal departments employing at least ten UConn Law graduates. The ultimate goal is to increase scholarship funding and the Law School Dean’s Fund.
Additional beneficiaries include Extension Master Gardeners, who received the highest number of donors (424), and Think About the Link Resources for School with 290 donors.
This entire display of initiative and support is a solid and effectual means of breeding support for the University of Connecticut and promoting its “strength, pride and spirit by supporting the university we love,” according to UConn Gives. The UConn family has joined together from the entire expanse of Connecticut and the university’s many satellite campuses to promote a common cause.
UConn Nation, members both current and former, have demonstrated their generous willingness to aid this institution in its mission of improving the state and those responsible for cultivating it. If the substantial growth of donations is any indication, support for the University of Connecticut and its mission is trending high. If such is the case, so too will be its mission and its family.
