In CBS’s newest sitcom “Happy Together”, an average, goofy married couple gets shoved into a high-profile lifestyle when work makes its way home one night.

The show is supposedly based on One Direction heartthrob, and executive producer of the show, Harry Styles, and his lifestyle/love life constantly being thrust into the limelight. Sometimes, even for a successful musician, all the attention can get to be just too much.

Everything changes for main characters Claire and Jake when Jake’s work follows him home one evening: a high-profile celebrity shows up on his doorstep. Jake presumes it would be an accounting issue since he is an accountant for Cooper James, aforementioned high-profile celebrity. When financial advice isn’t what James is seeking, Claire and Jake get thrust into a new, younger scene that they aren’t used to.

James takes Claire and Jake to a club where drunk dancing gets taken to a whole new level of regret in the morning. The so-called ordinary couple gets thrown into a paparazzi disaster, causing aggravation to their current living situation. Publicity can be a great thing, but for this couple it was a complete nightmare, causing drama across every aspect of their lives.

James becomes so enthralled with the average lifestyle that when it ends he is forced to come to some realizations about how he views relationships. Previously, he had believed sexuality and passion were the center of a romantic relationship, however when he sees Jake and Claire act like their goofy, in love selves he realizes relationships can be so much more than just sex.

Both James and the married couple form a strange bond similar to a parent-child dynamic. He learns a lot about genuine people through his time with Jake and Claire, to the extent that he gets sad when he has to leave. He gets a sense of parental support through the happily married couple.

Though there is a lot of drama associated with being in the spotlight with such a big celebrity, there’s a mutual love throughout the relationship. They’re from completely different worlds, yet they learn to take the good from both. This epitomizes the classic clash of celebrity and average citizen in a sitcom.

The scenario is unique in the sense that before the main personal conflict of James’ life, the two parties of people weren’t much more than slight acquaintances. When they are brought together, they form a relationship that displays genuine happiness and support.

When Jake does everything he can to get his life back to normal, he pushes James out into an unhappy scenario. The happy couple doesn’t realize what they’ve done until they see videos online of James and his negative demeanor.

The couple can’t help but keep this high-profile celebrity teenager out of their lives, and the same goes for James with Jake and Claire. This crazy situation leads them to a brand new and exciting living situation. Who knows how James’ life will affect the couple next, but Jake and Claire are more than willing to endure it.
