The UConn men’s soccer team (5-0-2) remains unbeaten after defeating Brown on Wednesday night, 3-1 in Providence. The program looks to take a winning streak of four games to five as they face Harvard (2-1) this Saturday, Sept. 13, in Storrs for the annual Huskies and Heroes weekend.
The last time these two squads faced one another was a decade ago on Sept. 10, 2015, where the Huskies won 2-1 in Cambridge, Mass. Since then, both programs have had success in their campaigns over the year, especially with the way both squads have kicked off this season. The Huskies have a tall task ahead of them as the Crimson are on a two-game winning streak after defeating Providence 2-0 and California 3-1.
Harvard stands at the top of the rankings in the Ivy League in goals per game, goals and assists per game, with their GAA ranking third in the league.
There are a few players the Huskies will have to look out for come game time. To start off, junior Dylan Tellado is one of them. Tellado leads Harvard in points with 5 points on the season and is second in the Ivy League in points. The California native netted a goal in each game versus Providence and California.
Tellado’s teammate Andreas Savva also has five points on the season; He made a new career high versus California on Wednesday evening, where he racked up 3 points on a goal and an assist.
To prevent these players and their squad from getting points on the board, the Huskies will need to use their goalkeeper Kyle Durham to their advantage.
Durham has been the main defensive catalyst for Connecticut this past season, boasting a GAA average of 0.48.
Aiding the red shirt sophomore on the offensive end is Austin Brummett.
Having transferred into Connecticut from San Diego State, Brummett has made waves in his short amount of time in a Husky uniform. The forward leads UConn in goals so far this season, scoring his last against Brown. The Bow, N.H., native has scored five goals in the last four matches and will look to continue that streak against the Crimson.
Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Joseph J. Morrone Stadium. If Husky fans cannot make it to the pitch, they can tune into the match on UConn+. Veterans can get into this match for free if they present a valid military ID at the box office.
